Cottages and some larger properties and farm houses in and around Petworth are available to rent when they become available.
Most of the 270 houses and cottages were built in the nineteenth century or earlier. Many are in the town of Petworth, others are in the surrounding countryside and villages. The Sussex stone and tiled roofs can be very picturesque, and the Estate is committed to maintaining the cottages in keeping with their surroundings
The properties and lettings are managed by Smiths Gore from the Estate Office and from Exchange House in Petworth.

The Estate has a small industrial estate and a number of former farm and other buildings which have been converted for commercial uses, shops, offices, warehouse and storage etc.

ESTATE MAINTENANCE TEAMS
The Estate’s building maintenance team maintains the Estate’s stock of 19th century (and older) properties and is also frequently contracted by the National Trust to bring their specialist skills to Petworth House and some of their other local properties.
There is also a water and roads maintenance team to look after the many miles of Estate roads and water pipes.
