RIVER ROTHER FISHING (SUSSEX)

The Estate has a beautiful and exclusive stretch of the River Rother with three miles of mostly double bank fishing, where fly fishing is for wild brown trout and Sea trout.

The river is regularly stocked with brown trout throughout the season. 

“I had one of the best moments in my fly-fishing life on the River Rother: during my first season I learned that the evening produced a decent rise and if the wind was light it could get lively.  One June evening in my second season I walked along the lower beat and noticed the odd deep rise, the kind made by good sized fish.  I tied on a size 16 grey wulff, lightly greased and happily tied into my first bright silvery brown trout.  It was about 2lbs and on the light tackle I was using, provided a strong fight.  Once I returned the fish to the river and looked up I saw a sight that warms the heart of any fly fisherman.  Up and down the river large boils were appearing everywhere.  The next 40 minutes I was casting, striking, fighting and landing quality brown trout all at or above 2lbs.  After I had landed and returned six fish I decided to savour the moment and sat to watch the rise slowly die down as the evening darkened."
